Entry Uplift

The clients approached me about updating their front entrance and giving it a more wooden, rustic feel.  As it was, it conveyed a very cold, hard impression since it was all concrete, steel, and wrought iron.  These materials, they felt, did not express them properly.  And what was worse, the concrete stairs had been changed several times and the result was a confused jumble of non-uniform steps near the bottom.

The first thing to do was break up those bottom steps and repour them to be straight and consistent.  Then we let them cure.  After the 30 days cure time, we clad them in radius edge deck wood with space between the concrete and the wood for water drainage.  We added wood posts and railings with some base and crown details.  Now the entrance felt a lot more like an inviting patio or deck, but there was still something missing.

Lastly, we replaced the steel door and sidelight with one made of solid fir.  Now the clients feel at home!
